Flourished in the 1870’s through 1904. Exhibited in the Glasgow Art Gallery, Glasgow Institute, Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Scottish Society of Watercolourists. Lived in Glasgow.

Herbert Folkhoffer
(1884-1962)
Born in Leyden, Holland in the Netherlands and died suddenly at the height of his career. From an early age, he displayed natural talent. His mother, a teacher of the Leyden Art College, encouraged his artistic abilities and he graduated from Leyden Art College in 1904 at the top of his class. That year he also won the coveted "Best in Show" award for his painting of the town hall in Leyden. He is best known for his ability to capture the feel, weight and history of the building he paints.

Thomas Marjoribanks Hay, RSW
(1862 – 1921)

Born in Edinburgh. Hay worked almost exclusively in watercolor and also designed stained glass. His subjects were mainly landscapes and coastal scenes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, the Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, the Walker Gallery in Liverpool, the Glasgow Institute and the Aberdeen Art Society, as well as the Scottish Society of Watercolourists and the Institute of Painters in Watercolour. Represented in the National Gallery of Scotland and the Manchester City Art Gallery.

Frederick J. Knowles
Born in 1874. A British Victorian School painter of figurative landscapes, often in Wales and Southwest England. Studied at the Cavendish School of Art. Probably the brother of George Sheridan. Exhibited 1890-1933. Lived in Manchester until 1890; Chorlton cum Hardy until 1895; Manchester thereafter. Exhibited in the Walker Gallery in Liverpool (3), the Manchester City Art Gallery (14), the Royal Academy in London (1), Royal Cambrian Academy (19), and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolourists (48).
